Wrong-Way Driver Loses Leg After Head-On Crash - Caught On Camera Extrication From Wreckage By MDFR
A man was driving a black Mercedes Benz southbound in the northbound lanes SR-874 near SW 88th Street, here: https://goo.gl/maps/Jce4un5qmXTeid21A in Miami-Dade Florida, USA and crashed head-on into a black pickup truck before also hitting a blue Honda. The man was trapped inside his Mercedes, bleeding heavily from where his leg was severed. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, Miami-Dade Police and Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) all rushed towards the scene as calls started coming in to 911 dispatchers. The first arriving cops began to stop the bleeding with tourniquets as fire rescue was still en route. Firefighter paramedics got there shortly after and began patient care and started extrication. Air rescue was requested and landed their helicopter right on the expressway after FHP shut it down in both directions. The man was eventually extricated but lost his leg during the crash. He was flown to a trauma hospital for treatment. The occupants of the pickup truck were transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The occupants of the blue Honda were not transported and had only minor to no injuries.
In this video, you will see Miami-Dade Fire Rescue working to extricate the man from the Mercedes, the man trapped inside of it, air rescue landing on the expressway, then flying away towards the trauma hospital. There is also video of the pickup truck that the wrong-way driver destroyed. This occurred on Saturday, July 31st about 3:30am EST.
